LinkedIn has made it easier for users to connect with their favorites companies with the launch of "Follow Company," a new feature that allows users to get notifications about activity happening from the companies they follow.
The new feature, which rolled out overnight, clearly takes cues from Facebook (Facebook) and Twitter (Twitter) — you can think of Follow Company as LinkedIn's (LinkedIn) version of the Facebook Fan Page. However, instead of receiving status updates from the companies you follow, you will instead get information such as recent hires and promotions, new job opportunities and company profile updates.
"Follow" has been added as a tab on company pages now as well — just check out Mashable's LinkedIn page to see it in action. Clicking on the tab will show you a list of our followers and their profile blurbs.
There are two ways to follow companies — either you can go to the company's profile page to follow it or you can follow a company from a person's profile — just click on a company name and the option to follow that company will appear in the hovercard.
LinkedIn has also made sure that you can control the flow of information from Follow Company — you can choose how often you receive updates and what types of updates you receive.
The change itself may be small, but the implications are big. With the potential to have thousands of job seekers and talented connections following a company, we expect a lot of organizations to jump on board with this new feature and promote their LinkedIn profiles, especially as the business social network adds more features that will give companies more control over their pages.
